This year’s Invitational featured First Tee — Greater Sacramento’s very special Honorary Chairman, Lee Trevino. Lee Trevino was inducted to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1981. He won six major championships and 29 PGA Tour events. He is one of only four players to twice win the U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship. First Tee — Greater Sacramento celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Lee Trevino’s Great year of Golf, 1971.

First Tee began in 1997 to make golf affordable and accessible for all kids. Their life skills curriculum supports the development of Nine Core Values inherently found within the game of golf (honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment). In addition to golf courses, First Tee has expanded over the years by bringing programs to physical education classes across the country through in-school and after-school programs.

This year’s Invitational will be held at Catta Verdera Country Club on Tuesday, September 28th, First Tee — Greater Sacramento’s very special Honorary Chairman, Lee Trevino will join us for a Q&A chat at breakfast, give a special short game clinic before play and Trevino will be on a par three hole to greet your group, take photos and hit a shot. This will be a Day to Remember with Lee Trevino.
Additionally, First Tee — Greater Sacramento will host a Dinner with a Legend, Lee Trevino on Monday, September 27th at Del Paso Country Club

First Tee — Greater Sacramento will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Lee Trevino’s Great year of Golf, 1971.
Trevino had a remarkable string of victories during a 20-day span in the summer of 1971. He defeated Jack Nicklaus in an 18-hole playoff to win the 1971 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club. Two weeks later, he won the Canadian Open, and the following week won The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club, becoming the first player to win those three titles in the same year. In 1971, Trevino was awarded the Hickok Belt as the top professional athlete and Sports Illustrated “Sportsman of the Year.”
